Equity, Diversity and Inclusive Care
Distinguish equal treatment from equitable access.
Why this matters
People do not arrive at an imaging service with equal access to information, transport, money or support. Disability, language differences, stigma and previous experiences of discrimination can create further barriers. When services assume that everyone can follow the same instructions or use the same facilities, patients may miss appointments, receive incomplete examinations or avoid seeking care.
Inclusive care starts with asking what a person needs and examining how the service responds. Accessible information, respectful language and practical adjustments can help people participate more fully in their care. This course explores bias, fairness and barriers in everyday imaging encounters, helping learners identify changes they can make and concerns that require action from the wider team or organisation.
