Radiological Society of Zambia (RSZ) Statement on Medical Imaging Workforce Recruitment
The Radiological Society of Zambia (RSZ) appreciates and acknowledges the significant strides made by the Ministry of Health in strengthening diagnostic services across the country through the procurement and installation of medical imaging equipment. The deployment of digital X-ray machines, ultrasound machines, CT scanners, C-arm units, mammography systems, portable digital X-ray units, and the acquisition of a PET-CT scanner and cyclotron demonstrates Government's commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for all Zambians.
As a professional body representing Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences practitioners, we view this development as a positive foundation for our continued advocacy for improved diagnostic healthcare services. Modern equipment alone, however, cannot achieve its intended impact without an adequate, skilled, and motivated workforce to operate, maintain, and optimize these technologies.
RSZ therefore joins its members in calling for increased employment of qualified Medical Imaging personnel during the forthcoming health worker recruitment process. The expansion of imaging infrastructure across the country has created a corresponding need for medical imaging professionals to ensure that these investments translate into improved patient outcomes and reduced waiting times.
We remain hopeful that the Ministry of Health will consider the growing human resource requirements within medical imaging and radiation sciences and prioritize the recruitment and equitable deployment of imaging professionals across all provinces and healthcare facilities.
RSZ reaffirms its commitment to working collaboratively with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to advance diagnostic imaging services, strengthen the healthcare workforce, and ensure that every Zambian benefits from timely, safe, and quality diagnostic care.
